After making Tempranillo over the past 10 years from one of the oldest platings of this variety in the Barossa, Simon and Corey have released Selene under the Sons of Eden label from the fantastic 2012 vintage.
The Tempranillo vineyard was planted in 2000 after an extensive national search for vine cuttings. With each year, and a greater understanding of the unique characteristics of this variety, the guys have been able to hone their style.
Corey has been working with Tempranillo in Rioja (the spiritual home of Tempranillo) since 2009, travelling to Spain each year tasting, blending and working with the locals. It is from these travels that he has been able to fully understand the potential of this variety.
The Tempranillo made from 2012 is truly worthy of being released under the Sons of Eden name. The wine has a style that takes its influence from traditional Rioja winemaking with a Barossa twist. Aged in thick staved, large oak barrels of 500 and 900 litres for 30 months has allowed the wine to mature very slowly, retaining freshness while concentrating and harmonizing the palate.
