OUTSTANDING NEW RIESLING RELEASES
Born from high altitude Eden Valley
Eden Valley provides the ideal setting for riesling with its combination of altitude, climate and soils contributing to a long, slow, ripening period critical to building pristine flavours while retaining the grape’s natural acidity.
Fruit destined for Freya is sourced from three unique Eden Valley vineyards, two of which are directly managed by Sons of Eden, the third, a long-term grower.
Cirrus is sourced from a vineyard in the highest reaches of Eden Valley at 550m altitude, within its own defined sub-region, High Eden.
The wines are vibrant and zesty as young styles but will, with careful cellaring, age magnificently for many years.
FREYA Eden Valley Riesling 2024
Classic from an outstanding vintage
We had an excited feeling that the fruit harvested in ’24 was some of the best riesling we had ever seen in our 25 vintages at Sons of Eden. A big call but following a precise winemaking path to bottle we can now confirm that excitement was justified.
The January to early March period was dry with long periods of daytime warmth which pushed the vines comfortably through veraison and onto maturity. Notably, the nights were cool to cold which allowed the vines to recover and retain generous levels of acidity critical to crafting well-balanced Rieslings.
The fruit from each block, within our 3 riesling vineyards, were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed with only the finest free-run juice retained. Following an extended cool fermentation period the wine was left on its yeast lees for 4 months to build subtle palate texture and deliver a key component to the overall balance of the wine.
“A focused bouquet of citrus-lime, white currant and a tinge of elderflower and spice. The palate is flavoursome and beautifully balanced with excellent intensity and refinement. A wine with life and zest, typical of great Eden Valley Rieslings”

Our Single Vineyard wines are all crafted to express a permanent signature of their site, climate and viticultural management. Only produced in exemplary years this Cirrus was made from the heralded ’21 vintage and released with 3 years bottle age in order to deliver the perfect balance of youthful vibrancy, texture and finesse.
The Cirrus vineyard sits at 550m above sea level within the High Eden sub-region of Eden Valley. The associated cool climate is ideal for growing riesling with delicate flavours and perfect natural acidity.
With a north-easterly aspect, and protected from the damaging prevailing westerly wind, the vineyard makes use of the gentle morning sunshine in embarking on a long slow ripening period. Free draining, low fertility, shallow sandy soils over weathered granite contribute to small intensely flavoured berries.
“This is finely scented and tantalising on the nose, showing green pear, lime cordial, lemon peel and white floral nuances. The palate offers brilliant focus and sleek mouthfeel, superbly enhanced by delicate texture and perfectly pitched acidity, finishing exceptionally long with outstanding tension and poise.” Sam Kim, August 2024
