OUTSTANDING Freya Riesling Release

FREYA Eden Valley Riesling 2025

Benchmark from an outstanding vintage

The excitement was hard to contain when we first tasted the juice post-pressing in the winery. Delicate yet intensely aromatic, with flavours typical of great Eden Valley Rieslings, the juice was perfectly balanced by natural acidity and sugar levels in the right slot.

Low yields combined with dry conditions through the growing season and up until harvest ensured intensely flavoured fruit was harvested in pristine condition. The typical warm days and cool nights in the final weeks prior to harvest ensured ample natural acidity was retained, critical to crafting well-balanced Rieslings.

Hand-picked fruit from each block was chilled before whole-bunch pressing, with only the finest free-run juice retained. After an extended cool fermentation, the wine rested on its yeast lees for four months, building subtle palate texture and contributing to its overall balance.

The Freya parcels were hand-harvested over 10 days from our Riesling blocks in two cool-climate Eden Valley vineyards; Cranes Range and Roeslers.

“A lifted bouquet of fresh limes, elderflower and a touch of white spice. The palate is full flavoured with a balanced acidity, finishing with vibrancy and intensity. A delicious wine that will mature gracefully for many years to come.”

We have also released our perfectly balanced and highly acclaimed, 2024 Single Vineyard Cirrus Riesling…

CIRRUS Single Vineyard High Eden Riesling 2021 – A Riesling in perfect harmony

97pts – The Wine Orbit (Sam Kim)
95pts – The Vintage Journal (Andrew Caillard MW & Angus Hughson)
94pts – James Suckling
94pts – Halliday (Dave Brookes)

Our single-vineyard wines are crafted to express the enduring signature of their site, climate, and viticultural management. Produced only in exemplary years, Cirrus was made from the heralded 2021 vintage and released with three years’ bottle age to deliver the perfect balance of youthful vibrancy, texture, and finesse.

The Cirrus vineyard sits at 550 metres above sea level in the High Eden sub-region of Eden Valley. This cool-climate site is ideal for growing Riesling with delicate flavours and pristine natural acidity.

With a north-easterly aspect, and protected from the damaging prevailing westerly wind, the vineyard makes use of the gentle morning sunshine in embarking on a long slow ripening period. Free draining, low fertility, shallow sandy soils over weathered granite contribute to small intensely flavoured berries.

“This is finely scented and tantalising on the nose, showing green pear, lime cordial, lemon peel and white floral nuances. The palate offers brilliant focus and sleek mouthfeel, superbly enhanced by delicate texture and perfectly pitched acidity, finishing exceptionally long with outstanding tension and poise.”

Sam Kim, August 2024

Born from high altitude Eden Valley

Eden Valley provides the ideal setting for Riesling with its combination of altitude, climate and soils contributing to a long, slow, ripening period critical to building pristine flavours while retaining the grape’s natural acidity.

Fruit destined for Sons of Eden’s Rieslings is sourced from three unique Eden Valley vineyards, two of which are directly managed by Sons of Eden, the third, a long-term grower.

The wines are vibrant and zesty as young styles but with careful cellaring, will age magnificently for many years. Choose from the ever popular current release Freya, the small make Cirrus Single Vineyard High Eden and the aged Freya Cellar Release.
