Deep crimson in colour this wine is bursting with ripe cherry, blackcurrants and complex five-spice aromas. The palate is an intriguing blend of red-fruit flavours and savoury undertones supported by a rounded and fleshy mid palate. The wine finishes with excellent length and freshness which ensures optimum drinking upon release but will mature well for the medium term.

All 3 varieties were hand harvested and fermented separately. To aid colour, tannin and flavour extraction the parcels were fermented warm, with temperatures reaching near 30oC. The Grenache and Mourvedre parcels were macerated on skins for 10-20 days before being pressed straight to seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons for maturation. These parcels were then barrel maturated for 16 months without racking on full press solids, then naturally clarified, blended and bottled.

The KENNEDY is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.

It’s svelte and smooth, but it still qualifies as a robust red. It certainly pours on a power of fruit flavour. Blackberry, kirsch, dark leather and anise flavours sweep convincingly through the palate. All guns ablaze. Value and quality in one.

The impressive 2017 Kennedy Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre is a blend of 48% Grenache, 32% Shiraz and 20% Mourvedre, all aged in older French hogsheads and puncheons.
