This wine is a blend of 16 unique individual Shiraz parcels, made from fruit grown from throughout the Barossa Region. The blend of cooler climate Eden Valley Shiraz (45%) and warmer climate Barossa Valley Shiraz (55%) combine beautifully to enhance the palate structure and aromatics.
An array of fermentation techniques were utilised, all involving extended skin contact and gentle hand-plunging. Each of the fermentations retained varying levels of whole-bunch fruit clusters from 10 to 60%, then after 20-25 days on skins each ferment was pressed into a mix of new (45%) and seasoned French oak hogsheads. After a maturation of 15 months the wine was blended, naturally clarified and bottled without finings or filtration.

This time-honoured blend is our offering to Zephyrus, Greek God of the West Wind, who is often depicted as a horse due to the speed attributed to this majestic animal. The vineyards of the Greater Barossa are regularly buffeted by cooling Westerly winds creating an ideal temperature range in which to slowly ripen.

Fruit from eight vineyards across the Barossa and Eden valleys, anywhere from 10-60% whole bunches depending on the batch, 3 weeks on skins and all French oak, 45% new. The wine stands out. Spice, fruit, pepper and wood smoke flavours explode onto the palate and ramp the seduction from there. It’s supple and fresh, but the power is obvious. In short, it’s really good.

A blend of 60/40 Eden and Barossa Valley, this splendidly expressed shiraz shows dark fruit richness together with seductive notes of game, warm spice, thyme and cedar on the nose, followed by a succulent palate that is wonderfully weighted and persistent. It is superbly balanced and structured with flowing mouthfeel and silky texture, making it highly enjoyable.

The Real Review

Deep, saturated purple/red colour. There's a lovely thread of sweetness on the nose, but it's not just ripe berry characters alone. Florals, spices and vegemitey richness add dimensions, ahead of a mouth-filling shiraz with tons of flavour and an attractive whisper of toasted coconut at the edge. Lingering and satisfying with integrated ripe, fine tannins in fine harmony. Excellent. Ralph Kyte-Powell May 2019
