2018 VINTAGE – Cellar Release

94 Points, James Suckling (Ryan Montgomery)

Evolving and expressive aromas of preserved lemons, gun smoke, lime cordial, beeswax, lanolin, toast and crushed stones. The palate is dry and mid-weighted, showing bright acidity, a gently rounded texture and a long, savory, citrus finish with mineral drive. Nicely developed with plenty of energy.

2016 VINTAGE – Cellar Release

94 Points, Halliday (Dave Brookes)

These museum release wines are a very good thing indeed, here we have a 2016 Eden Valley Riesling that has begun to take on the beloved toasty complexity of aged Rieslings yet still retains the juicy lime and floral flecked intensity of fruit that comes from the region. Long, pure and true, it’s drinking wonderfully now – no need to lay it down, just splash it around in the glasses of those that matter to you.

Grape Variety:

  • Riesling 100%

Technical Details:

  • Alcohol 12.5%|pH 2.92|Acidity 6.4 g/L|Residual sugar: 1.3 g/L

Vineyards:

  • Craneford 44 year-old vines

Whole bunch pressed with only the finest pressings being retained. The juice was settled cold and racked clear to begin fermentation. Fermented cool at 12-14ºC for near 3 weeks before going to dryness. To help build palate texture the wine was held on yeast lees for a further 2 months before being bottled and matured.

This extended maturation brings an extra dimension of finesse and balance to the wines, achieving the ultimate expression of our prized Eden Valley vineyard sites.

The Freya Cellar Release program began in 2005, with small parcels of Freya Eden Valley Riesling being held back from each harvest and matured in our ideal cellaring conditions. With careful bottle maturation Eden Valley Riesling evolves gracefully and this program ensures maturing Rieslings can be enjoyed upon release.

Freya was the foremost goddess of ancient Germanic lands where the Riesling grape originated. This wine honours early German settlers who cultivated the first Riesling vine in the exemplary micro-climate of the Barossa’s Eden Valley.

Enjoy now until 2036
