Kennedy 2019
Barossa Valley
Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre

Deep crimson in colour this wine is bursting with ripe cherry, blackcurrants and complex five-spice aromas. The palate is an intriguing blend of red-fruit flavours and savoury undertones supported by a rounded and fleshy mid palate. The wine finishes with excellent length and freshness which ensures optimum drinking upon release but will mature well for the medium term.

All 3 varieties were hand harvested and fermented separately. To aid colour, tannin and flavour extraction the parcels were fermented warm, with temperatures reaching near 30oC. The Grenache and Mourvedre parcels were macerated on skins for 10-20 days before being pressed straight to seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons for maturation. These parcels were then barrel maturated for 16 months without racking on full press solids, then naturally clarified, blended and bottled.

The KENNEDY is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 60+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.

It’s perfumed and instantly appealing with dark cherry, cranberry, clove, almond and olive notes, followed by a supple palate that’s silky and fleshy. Generous, plush and engaging with a lingering complex finish. Sam Kim

James Suckling (Nick Stock Reviewer)

This very drinkable and convincing red blend offers up a range of rich dark-fruit aromas and flavors, as well as brighter, redder-toned berries. The ripe, soft and long tannins are so easygoing. All melded neatly. A blend of 50% grenache, 30% shiraz and 20% mourvedre. Nick Stock

Halliday (Tyson Stelzer reviewer)

Hand harvested from 20–100+yo vines from 9 vineyards spanning the Barossa floor. Matured 12 months in seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons. Quintessential GSM that encapsulates the full sweep of personalities of the Barossa floor in red and dark berry fruits of all kinds, sweet spice and dried herbs. Ripe fruit flesh, firm, fine-grained tannins and warm alcohol bring together a finish of balance, harmony and crowd-satisfying appeal. Tyson Stelzer

The Real Review (Stuart Knox reviewer)

Deep and crystalline ruby-red colour. Blood plums, iodine and bresaola aromatics. A smoked-meat and blood palate, with black berries and graphite underneath. Good flow, quite slippery, with a spritz of acidity giving a little pop in the middle. Fine tannins help it glide long and finish dry. Stuart Knox
