Glittering with bright fruit energy and striking mountain herb fragrance. Fleshy and plush with a refreshing luminous acidity and fine-seamed oak tannins. Long and pleasurable.
Complex layers of wild raspberries, blueberry bush, tobacco leaves, cedar and spices. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, showing notes of cassia bark, dark cherries, potpourri and dried herbs. Wonderfully plush and lifted with a underlying power.
Deep crimson. Intense raspberry strawberry liquorice aromas with roasted walnut notes. Generously concentrated wine with abundant strawberry raspberry fruits and fine chocolaty tannins. Some flinty/ graphite/ herbgarden notes at the finish. Very big presence with lovely density and vigour.
Generous and aromatic with dark plums, blackberries, baking spices, licorice, cedar and dried herbs on the nose. The palate is full-bodied with supple tannins and a rounded, textural mouthfeel, finishing with a savory, fruit-driven edge. A plush and approachable GSM blend.
Both the Notus 2023 and Kenndey 2023 draw upon the old vine Grenache resource of the Barossa Valley. These vineyards, passed through generations, consistently produce vibrant and complex wines to the highest world standard.
Hand harvested and then sorted to ensure only the very best Grenache bunches were retained. The fruit was then destemmed with the inclusion of up to 25% whole-bunch clusters into a selection of small closed-style, egg shaped fermenters. After a brief cold-soak period, the fruit was allowed to warm naturally to start fermentation. Both hand and foot plunged daily, helped to manage the temperature exchange and the overall extraction. After 22-days on skins the fermenters were pressed off to large oak puncheon sized barrels for a 6-month maturation. Prior to bottling the wine was racked to blend, naturally clarified and then bottled
All three varieties were hand harvested and fermented separately. To promote colour, tannin and flavour extraction the three parcels were cold soaked for a short period prior to warming for fermentation. Slow, cool natural ferments ensured fruit retention and mid palate richness. Post ferment the Grenache and Mourvedre vessels were soaked further on skins for an additional 11 days before being pressed straight to large oak puncheons for maturation. These parcels were matured in oak for 12 months with minimal intrusion, before being blended, naturally clarified and then bottled.
NOTUS, the Greek God of the Southerly wind, is made from old vine Grenache. After basking in the warm summer climate of the Barossa Valley the vines welcome the arrival of the cooling Southerly wind which marks the transition from summer to autumn and so coincides with the last stage in the ripening process of Grenache.
The KENNEDY is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.
